Nicole Kidman clarified the truth behind one of her most famous memes.
The Oscar winner, 57, did an interview with British GQ published Monday and explained that the viral photo taken of the actress in 2001 — which shows her walking outside with a triumphant expression on her face and her hands raised in the air — has nothing to do with her divorce from Tom Cruise.
“That’s not true,” Kidman said.
“That was not me; that was from a film, that wasn’t real life. I know that image!” she added.
Kidman did not name the movie she was referring to.
The meme of Kidman has been widely used on the internet over the years. Jenna Dewan posted the throwback photo on her Instagram Stories to mark her official divorce from Channing Tatum in September.
The “Practical Magic” star finalized her divorce from Cruise, 62, after 11 years of marriage around the time that the viral photo was taken.
They adopted two children together, Bella, 31, and Connor, 29, before their split.
Cruise’s decision to file for divorce in 2001 came as a “shock” to Kidman, she said in a 2012 interview with DuJour magazine.
“I thought our life together was perfect,” Kidman admitted to the outlet. “It took me a very long time to heal. It was a shock to my system.”
Fans have speculated that the marriage came to an end due to Kidman’s refusal to become a Scientologist like Cruise.
“She knows why, and I know why, [we divorced]” Cruise told Vanity Fair in 2013, vowing to keep the reasoning private. “She’s the mother of my children, and I wish her well. And I think that you just move on.”
“And I don’t say that lightly. I don’t say that with anything,” the “Top Gun” star continued. “Things happen in life, and you do everything you can, and in every possible way, and there’s a point at which you just sometimes have to face the brutal reality.”
After divorcing Kidman, Cruise married fellow actor Katie Holmes, 45, on Nov. 18, 2006.
The pair had a daughter, Suri, now 18, and divorced in August 2012.
Meanwhile, Kidman married country superstar Keith Urban, 57, on June 25, 2006. They have two daughters together: Sunday Rose, 16, and Faith Margaret, 13.
In the GQ interview, Kidman also talked about the viral GIF of her clapping with the palm of her hands at the 2017 Oscars.
“I’ve also seen the one where I’m clapping like that,” she said. “Cause I had a massive heavy borrowed ring on and it was really painful, and I was scared of wrecking the jewelry. Ha! There’s always something behind the actual images that go out there, right?”
The “Expats” star also admitted that she enjoys seeing the memes that have come from her AMC ad that plays in movie theaters.
“Yeah, yeah. ‘Heartbreak feels good in a place like this.’ But I’ll do anything for cinema, so you can meme me as much as you want,” she said.
