This week on streaming marks the arrival of a new mystery thriller, Eric, on Netflix, an inspiring documentary, Jim Henson Idea Man, on Disney+, and the return of We Are Lady Parts on Peacock.

New Movies & Shows To Stream This Weekend: Eric, We Are Lady Parts, Jim Henson Idea Man + More
It seems like a strange coincidence that two of this week’s new releases are both about New York-based puppeteers, but their tones are vastly different. In Netflix’s Eric, Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Vincent, a puppeteer in 1980s New York whose son goes missing, and Vincent becomes frantic and delusional in his quest to being the boy home. On Disney+, Jim Henson Idea Man tells a much different story (a true one), of the man whose puppetry and creative ingenuity have brought joy to several generations. And there’s one more exciting new release that has nothing to do with puppeteering, We Are Lady Parts, a show about an all-female Muslim punk band, whose second season dropped on Thursday.
New on Netflix May 30: Eric
Benedict Cumberbatch is well-known for his turn as Sherlock Holmes, but in Eric, he plays a man unable to solve a mystery that begins to tear his life apart. When a young boy named Edgar goes missing, his father Vincent (Cumberbatch) becomes obsessed with the idea of bringing one of Edgar’s drawings, a monster named Edgar, to life in order to lure Edgar home. A puppeteer, Vincent builds and voices the monster, despite everyone else’s misgivings.
Now would be a great time to go back and watch the first season of We Are Lady Parts, the stellar dramedy that premiered on Peacock back in 2021. The show, about a young Muslim woman (Anjana Vasan) who defies her family expectations to live a traditional, conservative lifestyle in order to be the guitarist in a punk band, was one of Peacock’s first original series and its second season is finally here this week.
Filmmaker Ron Howard directs the newest documentary about Muppets creator Jim Henson, called Jim Henson Idea Man, which is streaming now on Disney+. Produced with the cooperation of the Henson family, Idea Man is a look at the innovator’s 36-year career as he developed the prototype for Kermit the Frog and the characters on Sesame Street, and went on to make films like Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal.
