The hosts of MSNBC’s flagship morning show “Morning Joe” announced on Monday that they were attempting to mend fences with President-elect Donald Trump — but not everyone was ready to simply forget their years of pointedly negative coverage.
Hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski explained during Monday morning’s broadcast that they had met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago over the weekend — the first time they had spoken face to face in seven years — and that while they had not agreed on a number of issues, they had agreed that it was past time “to restart communications.”

Joe and Mika went to Mar a Lago to talk with Trump over the weekend. First face-to-face meeting in seven years. “We didn’t see eye-to-eye on a lot of issues and we told him so,” @JoeNBC says. “What we did agree on – was to restart communications,” @morningmika says. pic.twitter.com/lyWZWK4CwX

Brzezinski began by attacking Trump’s cabinet picks thus far, saying that she agreed with many concerned people she’d spoken to and “they are scary.” Still, she said they had visited Mar-a-Lago to speak with Trump when they got the chance.
Scarborough noted that they had discussed a number of issues with Trump, from abortion to deportations and threats of political retribution — and that, unsurprisingly, they had not agreed on many things.
Brzezinski also revealed that Scarborough had made a personal call to Trump the morning after the first attempt on his life at the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

“Joe and I realized it’s time to do something different and that starts with not only talking about Donald Trump, but also talking with him,” Brzezinski added.
But still, there were those on the Right who felt that “Morning Joe” was offering too little too late.

“Annals of shamelessness: They call Trump a fascist, and much, much more, and then, just 22 days after his ‘Nazi-like’ rally, they fly to Florida for an audience. Afterward, they say, ‘We didn’t see eye-to-eye on a lot of issues,’ but they want to ‘restart communications.’ What?” Byron York said.

“MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough and Mika went to Mar-a-Lago to meet with Trump and agreed to ‘reset’ their relationship. Proving yet again that Democrats never actually thought Trump was Hitler or a fascist dictator. If you were propagandized, it’s ok. You got played. Usual dem playbook,” another said.
