Mets’ Francisco Alvarez to undergo surgery for torn ligament

The Mets did not get the news they wanted on Francisco Alvarez.

Manager Carlos Mendoza said after the Mets’ win over the Dodgers on Saturday that the catcher tore a ligament in his thumb and he’ll require surgery.

There is not a specific timetable to return, though The Post’s Mike Puma reported that Alvarez told teammates it could be six to eight weeks.
