Matt Meyer wins Delaware governor's race to replace outgoing John Carney

County executive Matt Meyer (D) has won the race to replace term-limited Democratic Gov. John Carney (D), according to a projection from Decision Desk HQ.

Republican Mike Ramone, a state representative, faced off against Meyer, who has served as the executive of New Castle County since 2017. The Democratic candidate led in the polls ahead of the Nov. 5 election in the deep-blue state.

Before seeking public office, Meyer worked as a diplomat embedded with the Army in Iraq. he also taught middle school math.

Carney, the outgoing governor, is virtually guaranteed to become the mayor of Wimington, having won the Democratic nomination in September. He has no Republican challengers.
