Shocking bodycam footage worn by Phoenix police officers shows the dramatic rescue of a man who was trapped inside a car that ended up submerged in a pool last month.
Witnesses called the Phoenix Police Department after seeing a man drive into the deep end of a residential pool just after 2 a.m. on Halloween.
When responding officers arrived, they jumped into the pool, onto the roof of the car, and began to pummel the sunroof window with a metal bar, according to bodycam footage released by police on Tuesday.
Officers eventually break the glass and a man wearing a yellow workman’s vest pops through the roof and up out of the water, the footage shows.
He appears to give a thumbs up to the men who saved his life.
Officers were then able to safely pull the sodden and grateful man out of the pool.
They can be heard making sure that the driver was the only person in the car.
The driver was taken to an area hospital out of precaution.
It is not known if impairment was a factor in the crash.
