Lewandowski: Trump to unveil administration’s economic picks next week

Corey Lewandowski, a senior adviser on President-elect Trump’s campaign, said the incoming president will unveil the administration’s economic picks next week.

“But next week is when the President’s team is scheduled to roll out the economic team that includes the National Economic Advisor, the Council on Economic Advisers, and others. This week was Homeland Security week, and you’ve seen that,” Lewandowski said during his Friday appearance on NewsNation’s show “The Hill.”

Lewandowski’s remarks come as Trump announced a slew of candidates for his administration this week. Some of them, such as tapping former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) for attorney general and former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) for director of National Intelligence (DNI) have shocked people in Washington. Trump also chose Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), and Fox News host and veteran Pete Hegseth as Defense Secretary.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) was nominated as secretary of State while North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum (R) was tapped to lead as secretary of the Interior.

Lewandowski confirmed during the interview that Square Group founder Scott Bessent and Cantor Fitzgerald Chair and CEO Howard Lutnick, who also serves as Trump’s transition team co-chair, have the best chance to be the next Treasury secretary. He emphasized that the president-elect is looking for a candidate who will keep low interest rates.

“Well, someone who understands how to make sure our country and our economy is moving again, making sure that we don’t have high interest rates, making sure that we are benefiting and valuing the manufacturing here in this country, as opposed to overseas,” Lewandowski said.

“So, you know, what you see in the two candidates are both have extensive experience on Wall Street. Both are recognized as experts in their respective field,” he added.

Bessent has recently been endorsed by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), a Trump ally, for the position. The Palmetto State senator called him an “outstanding” choice.
