Knicks’ 2024 NBA trade deadline guide: targets, assets

The Knicks’ circumstances suggest they’ll make a move this week.

They need bench depth. They have a chest of future draft picks and a couple of roster pieces being dangled as trade chips, with one of them (Evan Fournier) on a deal that could be expiring.  But they’re also awaiting the return of key players from injuries — Julius Randle, Mitchell Robinson and OG Anunoby.

With Randle and Robinson, in particular, it’s tough to know when, or if, they’ll come back. Just as importantly, we don’t know whether they’ll be the same type of players after long absences.

All that is to say the Knicks have to be careful as they approach Thursday’s trade deadline. Aggressive but prudent. They’re pseudo-contenders today with nine wins in their past 10 games, but it’s only early February.
