King Charles’ right-hand man, Major Johnny Thompson, is officially off the market.
The king’s equerry, 40, popped the all-important question to his girlfriend of 18 months, Olivia Lewis — a London-based PR executive.
Dubbed “Major Eye Candy” by social media users, Major Thompson caught the public’s eye at the king’s coronation in May 2023.
Since then, he has attracted a cult-like following by admirers who have spotted him at various royal engagements.
“The engagement is announced between Lieutenant Colonel Jonny Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Thompson of Morpeth, Northumberland, and Olivia Rose, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Lewis OBE of Primrose Hill, London,” the pair’s engagement announcement reads, per The Times.
The royal aide’s soon-to-be wife is the daughter of Simon Lewis, a former communications secretary to the late Queen Elizabeth II.
He later served as the director of communications for former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who was in office from 2007 to 2010.
Olivia, 33, boasts her own connections to the royal family, having previous worked as a PR exec for King Charles and Queen Camilla.
News of Thompson’s engagement came to light in February, two years after he separated from his wife Caroline, whom he wed in 2010. The exes share one son.
Thompson then met his fiancée while working for the Firm. At the time, she had been working for the king and queen’s foreign and Commonwealth team, which she left in January 2023.
In December 2023, Olivia joined her family’s PR firm, Lewis Advisors, shortly after her father and elder brother, Thomas, had founded it.
Charles, 75, last year issued a glittering promotion to Thompson, officially making him his right-hand man.
Thompson, who often appears alongside the royal family in kilts, is in charge of organizing the king’s private affairs.
“The King relies on him heavily and he is a vital member of the team,” a royal source said at the time. “This promotion is a great vote of confidence.”
An equerry is an officer of the British royal household who assists members of the family, with Thompson tending to Charles since the death of the late queen.
Thompson first went viral during the funeral of the queen in September 2022. He previously served as her equerry and was her most senior bodyguard for a period of time.
The hunky assistant was again by the sovereign’s side at the king’s coronation on May 6, 2023, and social media users were quick to drool over his presence.
Soon after, he made third place on Tatler’s Social Power Index, which details where the “real power lies in Britain.”
Thompson — who has reportedly worked with Charles since 2020 — is responsible for the “planning and execution” of the king’s daily programs.
Equerries are chosen from senior officers of the British Army.
