Kevin Durant goes down with calf injury as Suns take early-season blow

Another one of the NBA’s biggest stars has gone down with an injury.

Kevin Durant suffered a left calf strain during a win over the Mavericks on Friday night, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported.

Charania added that the two-time NBA Finals MVP will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

It’s not clear if the Suns have any timeline for Durant’s return.

Durant played a team-leading 37 minutes — scoring 26 points with five rebounds and four assists — in the 114-113 win on Friday, and it is unclear when he would have suffered the calf issue.

It has been a strong start for both Durant, 36, and the Suns, who have started the 2024-25 season at 8-1.

Durant, for his part, has averaged 27.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists thus far in what has been a terrific beginning of the year for the 14-time All-Star.

The news comes on the heels of two other big-name players getting hurt after the Pelicans’ Zion Williamson (hamstring) and the Grizzlies’ Ja Morant (hip) were revealed to have injuries that will cost them time.
