Katie Couric is officially a grandma!
The former “Today” show co-host took to Instagram Sunday to reveal her daughter, Ellie Dobrosky, had given birth.
“John Albert Dobrosky was born on his due date, Saturday, March 23rd at 8:23 am, just shy of seven pounds,” she wrote in a caption alongside photos of her, Ellie, Ellie’s husband Mark, Couric’s youngest daughter Caroline Monahan and her own husband John Molner spending time with the newborn.
“He will be called Jay in honor of his maternal grandfather,” the 67-year-old further revealed, referencing her late husband, John “Jay” Monahan, who died of colorectal cancer in 1998 at the age of 42.
“Mom and Dad are over the moon, I am thrilled to have my first grandchild, Carrie can’t wait to be a cool Aunt and Molner is enjoying handing out cigars. We feel so blessed. 💙🥰🍼👶🏻💙 We’ll have more tomorrow in Wake-Up Call ⏰❤️,” she added.
On her own website, Couric said she’s “going to try to enjoy every moment” after becoming a grandmother.
“Witnessing your baby have a baby is wild. Ellie had an easy pregnancy and took good care of herself. I know she’s going to be a wonderful mother, and I know Mark will be a parent who is an equal partner. Jay was like that. It makes all the difference in the world,” she explained.
Couric first announced her daughter’s pregnancy in December 2023 by sharing an Instagram video that showed Caroline handing her a beaded friendship bracelet to wear to a Taylor Swift concert.
When Couric initially looked at the “Granny to be” message on the bracelet, she was confused, but when she eventually processed what the words meant, her jaw hit the floor.
Ellie said, “I’m pregnant,” to which the former news anchor replied, “You are? Wow!”
Couric welcomed Ellie and Caroline in 1991 and 1996, respectively, with her first husband. Following Jay’s death, she married Molner, 60, in 2014.
As for Ellie’s love life, the new mom and Dobrosky got engaged in February 2019. The couple tied the knot two years later.
