Johnny Depp is looking at buying a $4m historic castle in Montalto Dora, Italy, according to local reports.
Depp, 60, has largely been living and making movies in Europe since his 2022 defmation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard.
While directing a biopic about artist Amedeo Modigliani, Depp toured the ancient fortress perched on the hills of Mount Crovero in Turin, according to newspaper Corriere delle sera.
Sources told The Post actor Riccardo Scamarcio — who is starring in the movie, along with Al Pacino — has been a frequent visitor to the castle and took Johnny with him, with a view to buying it.
The castle is currently for sale after having undergone a careful and lengthy restoration, with medieval and gothic influences.
The sprawling property is over 22,000 square feet and comes with 11 bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, a paved courtyard and a 15th century chapel, Il Messagero reports.
And if that’s not enough — there’s also a smaller castle and farmhouse on the land, the outlet said.
Renzo Galletto, Mayor of Montaldo Dora, told The Post he is not convinced Depp should be king of that particular castle.
“A celebrity buying a historic monument like the Montalto Dora castle would bring a lot of attention to the area, but we’re not sure if it would be the right ‘economic synergy’ for the community,” he said, adding that the residence is under the protection of Italian Culturan Heritage.
The village of Montalto Dora is home to only around 3,300 people.
“The castle is a Site of Community Interest, which means it comes with certain rules which have to be followed,” Galletto added.
“Building [anything new inside or out] would require a lot of approvals and permissions.”
Depp’s representatives declined to comment for this story.
The Montalto manor overlooks the Park of the Five Lakes in Ivrea in an area of great geological and natural interest.
It is abundant with typical species of the Piemonte flora and trees such as oaks, ashes, chestnuts and wild cherries, according to local tourism officials.
The mayor — who later clarified he had not met the Hollywood actor — said Depp would not be immediately discounted, should he make an offer on the castle.
“The property is private and we [the town] will be absolutely neutral in any real estate sale,” Galletto told The Post.
“But we will be very strict when it comes to the urban planning rules, we will do everything we can to protect the castle.”
A source close to the actor said he would “of course” respect any rules or regulations, should he end up buying the caste.
Depp already owns one castle, of sorts, in West Hollywood. The property is a replica of a Bavarian castle that looks more like the set of a horror movie, replete with turrets, towers and battlements.
Depp purchased the castle in 1995 for $2.3 million from flamboyant lawyer-to-the stars Marvin Mitchelson.
From the Sweetzer Avenue residence, right off the storied Sunset Strip, it’s virtually invisible for the public to view the property — it is hidden on a cul-de-sac, behind lush foliage and trees planted for privacy. All that can be seen from street level is the front gate.
The Hollywood actor’s latest hunt for a castle comes as one of the movies he has appeared in Jeanne Du Barry — which stars Depp as King Louis XV — is set to be released in the US next month.
