Remember when leftists conjured up a fairytale about Border Patrol agents whipping migrants at the southern border, and President Biden and DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas gleefully piled on with zero evidence?
One of the falsely maligned border agents (whose name has not been released in order to protect his identity) has just earned an award for his outstanding work in combatting human smuggling.
And there’s still no apology from Biden or Mayorkas.
In September of 2021, the El Paso Times photographed a group of mounted border agents trying to control a crowd of 14,000 Haitians attempting to cross the border illegally.
Liberals became hysterical, and the (false) “whipping” narrative spread like wildfire on social media and got picked up by other news outlets.
Did Biden officials wait for the facts? Of course not.
Mayorkas compared the agents to plantation overseers, saying the “images painfully conjured up the worst elements of our nation’s ongoing battle against systemic racism,” and Biden vowed, “those people will pay.”
Yet there were no whips, just reins, and an investigation found that no migrants were harmed; the agents never even struck anyone with their reins, either.
But nothing matters when Team Biden sees a need to pander to lefty hysteria.
Mayorkas admitted he had made the comments without even seeing the images, and it later came out that he had been told the story was false hours before he stoked the lie.
But neither he nor Biden have ever said “sorry” for slandering a group of law-enforcement officers.
Now one of those agents, reassigned to a desk job and temporarily barred from interacting with illegal immigrants, made lemonade out of lemons and did such excellent work in anti-smuggling intelligence that he earned a Border Patrol Achievement Award.
That’s actually the kind of agent you want working the border, but don’t hold your breath for acknowledgment from the White House.
That would upset progressives who believe enforcement of border laws is inherently evil and all border agents are cartoonish villains.
Then again, pandering to those idiots is why Biden won’t even act to slow the illegal-migrant tides — though that’s one of the top reasons his poll numbers are so terrible.
When the voters make Biden pay for his perverse priorities in November, we hope that offers some solace to the agents he maligned.
