Can the Jets come out of the darkness?
That is the question as the 2-6 Jets try to snap a five-game losing skid on Thursday night at MetLife Stadium against the 6-2 Texans.
After Sunday’s loss to the Patriots, interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said the team was in a “moment of darkness.”
Now, he will see if his team can emerge from it.
The Jets come into this game searching for answers after finding new ways to lose for the last five weeks.
“The way the season is and the way this game is, we’re a couple plays from 4-4, couple more from 5-3, couple more from 6-2,” quarterback Aaron Rodgers said, “[The] reality is we’re 2-6, so backs against the wall and we got to make some plays and win some games.”
The Texans have won four of their last five games but they have not been blowing people out. Of their six wins, only one is by more than six points.
They lost wide receiver Stefon Diggs to a torn ACL this week and are without receiver Nico Collins, who is on injured reserve.
The Jets enter as surprising betting favorites. Vegas must still believe in the Jets roster and be willing to overlook the mistakes the Jets have been making.
After the devastating last-second loss to the dismal Patriots, the Jets are embracing this short week and quick turnaround to face the Texans.
“It’s a fantastic thing as far as getting the taste out of your mouth,” Ulbrich said. “To sit on that one for six days, is, it’s hard enough to sit on it for one day, so, I really believe it’s a good thing for us right now.”
If the Jets suffer another loss, it becomes mock draft season.
They are clinging to the hopes that they can go on a winning streak and somehow salvage this season.
It seems like the longest of long shots with the way they’ve been playing.
“It’s always tough, but I think Thursday night as tough as it is on your body, it’s good on the mind because you can just move on,” Rodgers said. “[Ulbrich] did a good job of kind of cleaning everything up, and then moving on. We hate these games because they’re a short week, but we love them because of the weekend. They feel a lot better when you win.”
