Today host Jenna Bush Hager’s April Fools’ Day proved to be way too eventful.
“You know what, I’ve been waiting for this day because my April [first] went a little too long,” she told her co-host, Hoda Kotb, at the top of Tuesday’s (April 2) broadcast.
Bush Hager went on to explain that her household had “a multitude of April Fools’ pranks coming from every single way.” Not only did she help her youngest child, four-year-old Hal, play a prank on his father, but her daughter, 10-year-old Mila, plastic-wrapped her toilet.
“Exhibit B: I go in to use the restroom, Mila has wrapped my toilet in cellophane,” she said, sharing a photo of the plastic-wrapped toilet bowl.
“Did you fall for it?” Kotb asked her.
“Uh, Henry did,” Bush Hager replied, referring to her husband. “So, I had to call her in and say, ‘Now you have to clean up a 45-year-old man’s…’”
She trailed off and didn’t finish her sentence, which Kotb gracefully completed by suggesting the word, “Peepee.”
But that wasn’t all. “It was just coming for me in every which way,” Bush Hager continued. “Poppy’s toilet? Wrapped. Poppy – her vision isn’t as great! I said, ‘Mila, get in here and clean it up.’”
“Look at you playing tough mom on April Fools’ Day,” Kotb commented. “You’re like, ‘Get in here and clean it now!’”
Though it certainly turned out to be a rather messy April Fools’ Day, Bush Hager wasn’t completely innocent in all of this.
She revealed to Kotb that she pranked her children by telling them that one of their cats was pregnant, leading the kids to think that they were going to have kittens. “What is wrong with you?!” Kotb demanded as she laughed.
“Okay, we need to delete April Fools’ Day,” she told Bush Hager after she finished recapping her day.
“If you knew how much work was going in,” Bush Hager replied. “We created monsters who wrap their parents’ toilets. Anyways, I’m glad it’s the second.”
