Jason Kelce appeared to mock the phrasing used by Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker during his Benedictine College commencement address in a post on X that used “diabolical lies,” though it involved an entirely different topic than the one Butker referenced during a controversial commencement speech on May 11.
“All of you have been fed diabolical lies that washing every crevice of your bodies and hair, all the time is somehow better or healthier,” Kelce wrote on X, while in a debate about whether feet should be washed as part of good hygiene. “Any dermatologist not in bed with Big Soap will agree!! Hot spots are all that is necessary and actually leads to cleaner healthier skin.”
Kelce, who hosts the “New Heights” podcast with his brother and Chiefs star Travis Kelce, began the stretch of posts Saturday when he responded to one that said, “Jason Kelce looks like he doesn’t wash his legs or feet.”
“What kind of weirdo washes their feet….” Kelce replied.
That led to Kelce sharing an X user’s reply supporting his opinion, before the former Eagles center — who retired following the 2023 season — typed out a post that appeared to shade the phrasing Butker used.
When addressing Benedictine College — a Catholic liberal arts school in Kansas — last month, Butker said that women have “had the most diabolic lies told to you” and labeled “homemaker” as one of the most important titles they can hold.
“Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world,” Butker said, “but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. I can tell you that my beautiful wife Isabelle would be the first to say her life truly started when she started living her vocation as a wife and as a mother.”
He also called Pride Month a “deadly sin sort of pride” and blasted President Joe Biden for “delusional” support of abortion, among other things, in a 20-minute address.
It led to Butker receiving plenty of criticism — from sportscaster Michelle Beadle and former “Monday Night Football” sideline reporter Lisa Guerrero to even the Chargers’ video that released their schedule — and being described as homophobic and sexist.
The NFL said in a statement that Butker’s views “are not those of the NFL as an organization.”
And Jason Kelce, when he addressed the comments on his podcast, said that his wife, Kylie, was a “little bit frustrated” by what Butker said.
“There’s always going to be opinions that everybody shares that you’re going to disagree with and make no mistake about it, a lot of the things he said in his commencement speech are not things that I align myself with,” Kelce said, in part, during an episode of his podcast.
Butker, who received support from Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce even if they didn’t “agree with” everything he said, participated in the team’s trip to the White House on Friday.
