‘It’s not just a dress’

She looks absolutely smashing.

Lauren Sanchez, 54, arrived for her first-ever Met Gala in a “shattered glass” gown from Oscar de la Renta, with a black, velvet bodice and a skirt and train covered in reflective shards that mimic a floral pattern, an ode to the theme “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”

Sanchez, the fiancee of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, told Vogue she wanted to “try something different” with her green carpet look on Monday evening, donning a strapless, floor-length frock with a sweetheart neckline, a stark contrast from her “extremely sexy” style, she admitted.

“In my head, it’s definitely a metaphor for life because it’s a little bit about all your broken pieces in life and putting those pieces back together,” Sanchez continued. “It’s not just a dress. It is really a piece of art.”

The gown is a nod to the brand’s fall 2024 “Art Nouveau” collection, which features mosaic-like embellishments that, according to Vogue, pay homage to Louis Comfort Tiffany lamps.

“The shattered glass disappears and reveals the black velvet going up toward her very small waist, which is a gorgeous silhouette,” Oscar de la Renta’s co-designer Fernando Garcia told Vogue.

Sanchez, who was joined at the top of the Met’s stairs by her soon-to-be hubby Bezos, said that her personal style is constantly evolving, her once buttoned-up apparel as a reporter has transformed.

“Now, I’m having fun,” she said.

PageSix previously reported that the power couple, who got engaged last May, would attend the star-studded event, marking a moment of fashion industry christening for the former journalist.
