How can I stop my boss from crowing about the election?

My boss is crowing all over the office about the election results but I’m not as happy about it. Can I say something to him? I don’t want him to know my leanings in case he holds it against me.

Some are crowing, others are crying, which is why you should leave politics for the Thanksgiving table. Oh, wait — that’s a bad idea too.

This depends on your relationship with the boss, but you can take him aside and say that it isn’t a good idea to share personal opinions about controversial topics that aren’t related to the business, because many employees on staff have differing views. This way you are giving good advice and not making it personal.

If it’s just you and your boss, see if the euphoria dissipates. If not, politely say that you’d rather not engage in a discussion of politics at work.
