House Approves Biden Impeachment Inquiry As Hunter Biden Defies Subpoena

FLASH: House approves Biden impeachment inquiry. All 221 Republicans voted Wednesday to formalize the impeachment inquiry into President Biden. All Democrats present voted against the inquiry.

Yesterday, President Joe Biden’s miscreant son Hunter defied a subpoena from the House Oversight Committee, setting up a showdown with Republicans who are poised to vote on an impeachment inquiry resolution that ups the ante in the potential impeachment of his father.

Invoking the special “Lois Lerner privilege” Democrats claim when brought before Congress to testify about their misdeeds, Hunter Biden offered to testify publicly is a de facto rejection of the GOP demand that he appear Wednesday for the closed-door deposition he was subpoenaed for.

Instead of sitting for the deposition, Joe Biden’s prodigal son stood at a news conference on Capitol Hill, where he blasted “MAGA” Republicans who have “invaded” his privacy, “attacked” his family, and “ridiculed [his] struggle with addiction.”

“They belittled my recovery, and they have tried to dehumanize me, all to embarrass my father, who has devoted his entire life to public service,” the president’s son said according to FOX News. “For six years I have been a target of the unrelenting Trump attack team. ‘Where’s Hunter?’ Well, here’s my answer. I am here.”

Hunter Biden added that “my father was not financially involved in my business,” saying he was not involved in his dealings with Ukrainian natural gas firm Burisma Holdings, or his Chinese investments and others in the U.S.

“No evidence to support that my father was financially involved in my business because it did not happen,” Hunter Biden said according to reporting by Brooke Singman.

The White House and President Biden have maintained that the president was “never in business” with his son. Biden has also said he never spoke to his son about his business dealings, but evidence–like email records and testimony from Hunter Biden’s former business partners–presented by House Republicans in their investigations seem to contradict those statements, Ms. Singman reported.

Hunter Biden’s lawyer Abbe Lowell and the White House have argued that the subpoena was not valid because the House impeachment inquiry was never formalized by the full House of Representatives, however, Hunter avoided any legal arguments and stuck to the script that the investigation was all about politics, not the influence peddling and corruption to which the evidence points.

Perhaps the most important thing Hunter Biden said at his Wednesday news conference – aside from his refusal to testify – was a very carefully crafted and lawyerly statement that, “My father was not financially involved in my business.”

This is another step away from Joe Biden’s first sweeping denials of misconduct and disclaiming contact with the business affairs of Hunter and James Biden.

As Chairman James Comer’s House Oversight Committee has documented, Joe Biden has lied at least 16 times about his family’s business schemes.

Joe Biden’s blanket denials began on August 28, 2019, when then-presidential candidate Joe Biden said, “First of all, I have never discussed with my son, or my brother, or anyone else, anything having to do with their businesses, period.”

Since then, Team Biden has carefully walked back the blanket denial to its latest form of “not financially involved” in Hunter and presumably James Biden’s business.

Notice the denial did not say “did not financially benefit” from Hunter and James Biden’s business.

Chairmen James Comer and Jim Jordan announced on Wednesday they would initiate contempt proceedings for Hunter Biden after he did not sit for a scheduled deposition and instead held a press conference attacking them and the evidence their investigation has revealed.

This angered Comer and Jordan, who accused Biden of defying the subpoena and trying to play by his own rules. Now, they are initiating the process of holding him in contempt.

“I don’t know anyone in more trouble than Hunter Biden, and he just got in more trouble today,” Comer said.

To hold someone in contempt, it would have to be voted on by the Oversight Committee and then be voted on by the full House. The exact timeline of when the votes would take place is unknown.

“There’s a process you have to go through, and our lawyers will be doing that,” Jordan said according to reporting by Reese Gorman of the Washington Examiner.

The Capitol Switchboard is (202-224-3121), call today and tell your Representative that you demand Hunter Biden be held to the same rules that apply to every other American and that if he won’t comply with a congressional subpoena he should be held in contempt and jailed until he does comply.
