Hormel recalls Planters nuts products in 5 states over listeria concerns

Certain Planters nuts products have been voluntarily recalled in five states due to listeria concerns, the company announced last week.

Hormel Foods announced on Friday it was voluntarily recalling some of Planters honey roasted peanuts and Planters mixed nuts because they “have the potential to be contaminated” with listeria. The company said the affected products came from one of its facilities in April.

The company said the recall only includes certain products that were shipped to Publix warehouses in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina, and to Dollar Tree warehouses in South Carolina and Georgia.

The company said that the recall includes 4-ounce packages of Planters Honey Roasted Peanuts that have “best if used by” date of April 11, 2025 and a package UPC code of 2900002097. The recall also includes 8.75 ounce cans of Planters Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts that have with “best if used by” date of April 5, 2026 and a package UPC code of 2900001621.

Hormel Foods noted that no other Planters products are affected by the recall and that there have been no reported illnesses in connection to the recall so far. Those who have the recalled products should toss them or return them to the retailer for a refund or exchange, the company said.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a listeria infection is most likely to sicken those who are pregnant, newborns, those 65 and older or those with weakened immune systems.

A listeria infection in pregnant women can cause stillbirth, miscarriages, premature delivery or an infection of the newborn, according to the CDC. Symptoms in non-pregnant people can include fever, a stiff neck, headache and flu-like symptoms, according to the CDC.
