Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes credited God with the team’s Super Bowl LVIII win after coming from behind to beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime on Sunday.
The three-time Super Bowl MVP spoke to the press immediately after the Chiefs won the big game for the second consecutive year and said, “I just got to give God the glory” as he praised his team members for never faltering during the difficult season.
“He [God] challenged us to make us better,” Mahomes added. “And I am so proud of my guys man, this is awesome. It’s legendary.”

Mahomes has often spoken about his faith. Last February he praised God after he scored the NFL’s Most Valuable Player award for the 2022 season.
“First, I want to thank God for giving me this platform and putting so many amazing people around me to help support this dream I’ve had since I was a little kid,” Mahomes said. “Without him, none of this would be possible.”
The Chiefs quarterback previously discussed Christianity with reporters at a Super Bowl event last year.
“My Christian faith plays a role in everything that I do,” Mahomes revealed.

“I mean, I always ask God to lead me in the right direction and let me be who I am for His name,” he added. “Obviously it will be on a huge stage in the Super Bowl that He’s given me and I want to make sure I’m glorifying Him while I do it.”
Mahomes had spoken about his relationship with God last year after recovering from an injury to lead the Chiefs to beat the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship.
“First off, I wanna thank God, man,” he said. “He healed my body this week, had to battle through that. He gave me the strength to be out here.”
