Harrowing video has emerged of a good Samaritan in North Carolina trying to prevent an alleged carjacking by opening fire — only to be mowed down and killed by the driver.
Jonathan Adam Lecompte, 38, can be seen in the footage approaching Ricky Alex Driggers, 28, in an attempt to prevent him from allegedly trying to steal a road crew’s vehicle on West Fifth Street in Lumberton on March 18, the Fayetteville Observer reported.
“Don’t get in the goddamn truck, fool!” Lecompte yells before he opens fire at Driggers in the alarming video, which was posted by TMZ after going viral in recent days.
The clip shows Driggers in the white truck backing up.
“Get out the way, he is going to run into us!” Lecompte shouts to a group of bystanders.
The truck then speeds forward and strikes Lecompte in front of the other bystanders who cry out in horror.
“Oh my God!” one person is heard says.
Lecompte was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Police pursued the suspect until he crashed the vehicle on Selma Road near NC 41, the outlet reported.
Driggers “reportedly intentionally struck” the worker, police told the outlet in a statement.
He has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted common law robbery, larceny of a motor vehicle and felony fleeing to elude. He was being held at the Robeson County Jail without bail.
