Hakeem Jeffries defends Biden saying his son Hunter ‘has done nothing wrong'

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) defended President Biden for saying last year that his son Hunter Biden did “nothing wrong” in connection to the federal investigation related to tax and gun offenses.

Jeffries backed up Biden on NBC’s “Meet the Press” for his comments regarding the investigation into his son last year when asked if it was “appropriate” for the president to weigh in on the case at the time.

“President Biden commented as a loving father, as I would hope any loving father would do. Hunter Biden, of course, is entitled, as was Donald Trump, to the presumption of innocence and to a trial by a jury of his peers,” Jeffries said.

“And this Justice Department is going to proceed in that fashion, present the facts and the law and then we’ll all have to wait for a determination that is made by a jury as to Hunter Biden’s guilt or innocence,” he added.

Biden said last year that Hunter Biden “has done nothing wrong” in connection to a multiyear investigation into his son. His comments came before his son was indicted on tax and gun charges last year.

Biden’s son is now headed to trial this week over the federal gun charges in Delaware. The prosecutors said that Hunter Biden purchased a gun illegally because he falsely said on a form that he was not a drug user.

Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty to the federal gun charges in October. His bid to delay the gun charges trial failed last month and previous efforts to get the charges dismissed also failed.
