Before you know it, baseball will be back.
And after a rough and tumble 2023, new GM David Stearns has assembled an impressive mishmash of middle of the rotation starting pitchers — Luis Severino, Adrian Houser and Sean Manaea will complement Kodai Senga and José Quintana — and role players like Joey Wendle and crosstown rival Harrison Bader to shore up the roster.
Plus, All-Star closer Edwin Diaz will be back for new manager Carlos Mendoza.
While not as splashy as last year’s Justin Verlander acquisition, this is a quintessentially scrappy Mets team that fans can rally around.
And, if that isn’t enough to get you out to Citi Field this spring and summer, the team just announced 19 exciting giveaways this coming season.
Standouts include a trio of bobbleheads we can’t wait to get our hands on: Mr. Met in a London telephone booth (May 11), Brandon Nimmo (July 12) and Francisco Lindor in streetwear (July 29).

Dwight Gooden and Darryl Strawberry number retirement
On Sunday, April 14, the Mets are retiring Dwight Gooden’s number 16 in a pre-game ceremony.

A little over a month later, Darryl Strawberry will also get the respect he deserves when the team retires number 18 in his honor on Saturday, June 1.
