The Philadelphia Eagles may get punished by the NFL this week for tampering after landing ex-Giant Saquon Barkley in free agency, according to ESPN.
Any potential penalty won’t do the Giants any good, as teams have previously been docked a draft pick for similar offenses.
In addition to the Eagles’ pursuit of Barkley, the Atlanta Falcons are also in line to be disciplined by the league because of their dealings in signing quarterback Kirk Cousins.
And, according to the report, Atlanta is expected to be penalized more for their discretions regarding Cousins and his four-year, $180 million deal with $100 million guaranteed than the Eagles are for possible tampering with Barkley, who signed for three years and $37.75 million.
Both investigations are centered on contact the teams may or may not have had before the players were signed.
The Falcons could also have to deal with the fallout of Cousins being displeased about Atlanta drafting another quarterback, Michael Penix, Jr., out of Washington with the eighth overall pick in the draft so soon after bringing in the veteran QB.
Previously, the Miami Dolphins were forced to give up their first-round pick in 2023, as well as a third-round pick in 2024, for tampering with Tom Brady and coach Sean Payton on several occasions between 2019-22.
Additionally, team owner Stephen Ross was fined $1.5 million and vice chairman/limited partner Bruce Beal was fined $500,000.
