Ex-Ranger Brady Skjei keeps Hurricanes alive with late goal

Highlights from the Rangers’ 4-3 Game 4 overtime loss to the Hurricanes on Saturday night in Raleigh, N.C:  

1. Brady Skjei

The former Rangers defenseman not only scored the winning goal with 3:11 remaining, but it came on a power play, which provided a massive boost to the Canes, who had been 0-for-16 in the series with a man-advantage.

2. Evgeny Kuznetsov

The veteran center, who’d been benched in Game 2 after taking a costly undisciplined penalty that cost Carolina a goal in Game 1, scored a huge early goal to give the Canes life.

His third of the series gave Carolina a 1-0 lead jut 1:51 into the game.

3. Frederik Andersen

The Carolina goaltender, who was benched for Game 3, wasn’t spectacular, but he rebounded very well after giving up the Rangers’ third goal on a Alexis Lafreniere shot off his back.

Stat of the day

11-9: Margin the Hurricanes have outscored the Rangers by in the series when the teams have played at even strength — something that gives them hope as they go back to the Garden Monday to try to stave off elimination for a second time.
