Drew Barrymore Reveals Her Signature Scent On ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’: “Patchouli Oil And Macaroni And Cheese”

Drew Barrymore has a very distinct scent — and she is not afraid to own it. On this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the actress-turned-talk show host revealed that she often smells like “patchouli oil and macaroni and cheese.”

The confession came up during a Drew’s News topic about a recent Big Think report that says dogs view their human owners as family.

“Do you think of your dog as family?” Ross Mathews asked, to which Barrymore replied, “Yes, they are my family. I believe animals are family,” before calling her own pups onto the stage.

Mathews continued, “Scientists found that when dogs smell their owner’s aromas, it activated the reward center of their brains more than odors of other dogs or even the smells of their favorite food. That compared to what it’s like for a human smelling perfume or cologne of a loved one.”

Sometime while Mathews was talking, Barrymore made her way to the floor in front of the desk so she could pet her dogs, Douglas and Lucy, who are adorably named in honor of 50 First Dates.

“Isn’t that just the best news in the world?” she asked. “This story makes me so happy. We have scientific evidence, proof that our animals see us the way we see them.”

When Mathews asked what Lucy and Douglas smell to know it’s Barrymore, she shamelessly admitted, “Patchouli oil and macaroni and cheese. It’s the same thing since I was a kid.”

It’s no surprise that Barrymore smells like the tasty cuisine. After all, she previously said she could eat mac-and-cheese “every day for the rest of my life.” And during an April 2023 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, her Drew’s News segment even got derailed when a crusty, old mac-and-cheese noodle flung up from her desk mid-taping.

“Oh my god, I’m not kidding. This is too good. This is so awesome,” she said after something seemingly fell from the sky. “It’s a severely old macaroni and cheese noodle. That is just what fell from somewhere. And it’s rock hard.”

It’s safe to say that Drew Barrymore is the Queen of Mac-and-Cheese.

The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays on CBS. You can check the website for local airtimes.
