Donald Glover reacts to rumors he’s delaying ‘Community’ movie

Donald Glover swears the “Community” movie will see the light of day.

“It’s happening but I don’t know when. I swear, it’s happening,” Glover, 40, told Deadline on May 10.

The actor, producer and rapper also promised that he’s not to blame for the film’s production taking longer than anticipated.

“Everybody is hating on me on the internet and it’s not me!” he said. “They’re like, ‘We know that you’re the reason.’ Maybe I was last year — maybe — but not this time.”

Glover played college student Troy Barnes on “Community,” which followed a mismatched group of people at a community college.

The show featured the infamous saying, “six seasons and a movie,” which sparked the idea for the upcoming movie that will be released long after the show wrapped up its six seasons in 2014.

The film continuation of the NBC series was announced to be in development by Peacock in 2022.

Glover confirmed in February that the script for the movie was done.

“I was told that the script — literally, I was texting today — I was told that the script was done,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “I haven’t read it yet. It’s really just a schedule thing [but] I’m in,” he added. “I’m all in.”

In addition to Glover, stars Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Jim Rash, Ken Jeong and Yvette Nicole Brown are set to return.

In January, Brie, 41, teased when the highly-anticipated project is expected to start filming.

“I heard a rumor, Joel McHale says we’re filming it this summer, so fingers crossed,” she said in an interview with AP Entertainment. “He said it first and I’m just reiterating. But I hope so. I hope that we do it this summer. I’m really excited.”

Original cast member Chevy Chase is not expected to be in the movie.

Chase, 80, appeared as rich man Pierce Hawthorne for four seasons and was fired in 2012 after his alleged misbehavior on set.

Glover claimed to the New Yorker in 2018 that Chase called him the “N-word” and was racist toward him. In response, Chase told the outlet: “I am saddened to hear that Donald perceived me in that light.”

In April, McHale, 52, exclusively told The Post that he doesn’t think Chase “is allowed” to return for the film.

“I don’t think it would happen,” McHale said. “I’m guessing if you asked him, he wouldn’t be interested.”

He added: “Obviously his unceremonious departure in Season 4 pretty much did that in.”

Chase has always been vocal about his disdain for the series. In September 2023, he told Marc Maron’s “WTF” podcast that the comedy wasn’t “funny enough” and wished he never joined the cast.
