Dolton asks Lori Lightfoot to investigate Mayor Tiffany Henyard

She’s the best they can find?

The village of Dolton, Illinois, is considering hiring former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot to investigate its own scandal-ridden leader, “dictator” Tiffany Henyard, as residents demand her resignation.

Lightfoot, who lost her reelection bid in a landslide last year, would be tasked with probing numerous allegations against the self-proclaimed “Super Mayor” — including misusing taxpayer funds for lavish trips and sexual assault accusations, Fox 32 reported.

Four Dolton Board of Trustees members have proposed appointing Lightfoot — for $400 per hour, according to the outlet — as additional legislative counsel because she is both a former mayor and former federal prosecutor.

“I hope she does a deep dive from a non-biased standpoint,” Henyard’s former chief of staff Nakita Cloud told The Post Friday evening.

During her three-year tenure, Henyard has faced allegations of corruption and reckless spending, which have come under greater scrutiny since she admitted recently that the city was millions of dollars in the hole.

The heart of her scandals, however, center around a tax-funded “economic development” trip to Las Vegas last May.

The state Department of Human Rights launched a probe into two complaints filed against the Dolton Mayor’s Office in which a former assistant claims she was sexually assaulted by an unnamed trustee while in Sin City.

Henyard allegedly tried to silence the victim and a Dolton police officer who knew about the incident.

“Us figuring out what happened in Vegas is extremely important for the residents,” Dolton Board of Trustee member Brittney Norwood told The Post.

Her constituents have also complained about the ostentatious mayor’s massive billboards bearing her face across town and the “militarization” of local police against her political opponents.

The board has accused her of covering up personal expenses she paid for using village money. Henyard’s administration has denied the board’s numerous requests over the past year for financial documents, leaving them in the dark about the state of the Dolton’s finances.

Last month, Henyard vetoed a resolution passed unanimously by the village board to open the probe, calling on her to submit the village’s financial records.

“I’m still hoping that the proper authorities come and make her provide us with the information that we are supposed to be privy to in terms of the village,” Norwood said when asked what she hopes the investigation will uncover.

“We still don’t have the financial information, we are still lacking documents. We are hoping that someone from the proper authorities can come and force the administration to be transparent, that’s it,” she continued.

“We really hope the proper authorities can come and force her to be transparent, for the administration to be transparent and work with the board.”

The FBI is also reportedly investigating Henyard’s alleged misuse of taxpayer dollars and resources, including the hundreds of thousands of dollars the village paid in police overtime for Henyard’s personal security detail and accusations she held up licenses to certain businesses.

Henyard has repeatedly refused to step down.

The village board will vote on the resolution to hire Lightfoot Monday night during a special meeting.

“I think it’s a good thing for the residents of Dolton because former Mayor Lightfoot had experience as a mayor,” Cloud said. “She also has experience as a federal prosecutor, which means she is going to look at it with an eye that others may not.

“I hope she uncovers the truth about all the finances and what really happened in Las Vegas,” she added. “I believe the victim. I believe the alleged victim.”

Lightfoot’s job would include providing periodic updates to the board on the investigation and giving a comprehensive report at its conclusion. If approved, she would be retained for $400 per hour, Fox 32 reported.

Lightfoot had her own rough go at mayorship.

She became the first incumbent Chicago mayor in 40 years to lose re-election after the Democrat’s term was marred by surging violent crime in the Windy City.

Under Lightfoot, Chicago recorded 695 murders at the end of 2022 and 804 in 2021 — a level not seen in 25 years.

She controversially blamed her historic loss on race and gender.
