There are plenty of exceptional shows to watch while Yellowstone continues its extended hiatus. In the past, I’ve recommended a number of worthy series — 1883 (Paramount+), 1923 (Paramount+), Longmire (Netflix and Peacock), Sneaky Pete (Prime Video), and Joe Pickett (Paramount+) just to name a few — but the program I keep coming back to is Justified.
Airing from 2010 to 2015 on FX, Justified stars the great Timothy Olyphant as quick-triggered Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens. After his old-west style shooting of a mob hitman raises more than a few eyebrows, Raylan is reassigned to Lexington, Kentucky, which just so happens to be near this childhood home in the rural coal-mining towns of Harlan County. Equipped with a large Stetson and a short temper, the laconic lawman exudes a reckless, devil-may-care confidence seemingly ripped from the pages of a dog-eared western novel of a bygone era — which makes sense considering the series is based on writer Elmore Leonard’s short story Fire in the Hole.
If you like Yellowstone, you’ll love Justified. All six seasons (as well as the 2023 miniseries Justified: City Primeval) are streaming on Hulu. But let’s get back to business, shall we? When will Yellowstone return with new episodes? Here’s everything you need to know.
Is Yellowstone on Paramount Network or CBS Tonight (2/04/24)?
Nope. Paramount Network is airing a marathon of Bar Rescue. Season 3 episodes of Yellowstone aired Sunday and Monday nights in January on CBS, but that’s not the case tonight because of the Grammys.
When Does Yellowstone Return With New Season 5 Episodes?
Back in November, Paramount Network announced that Yellowstone will return for the second half of Season 5 in November 2024. The network also revealed that two new Yellowstone spinoffs — currently titled 1944 and 2024 — are in the works.
No plot details for 1944 or 2024 were announced, but Variety reports that 2024 is expected to begin airing following the conclusion of Yellowstone, with the show featuring “new cast members and locations with some crossover characters as well.” This is the series that would most likely include Matthew McConaughey, who’s been rumored to star in a Yellowstone spinoff since April 2023.
Where To Stream Yellowstone Season 5:
All five seasons of Yellowstone are available on Peacock Premium. You can also watch select Season 5 episodes on-demand via the Paramount Network website, fuboTV, Sling TV (the $6/month “Comedy Extra” add-on), Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, Philo, or DIRECTV STREAM.
Finally, individual episodes and complete seasons of Yellowstone are available to purchase on Amazon.
Is Kevin Costner Leaving Yellowstone?
Production on the final episodes of the fifth and final season will reportedly begin in late spring 2024, but Costner’s level of involvement in the remaining installments is still unclear. The actor revealed in a September court trial that he was initially offered $24 million to do Seasons 5, 6, and 7 of Yellowstone but there were “issues with creative.”
Per Deadline, another source of contention centered around the star’s shooting schedule. Costner reportedly wanted more time to spend on his upcoming multi-part Western movie Horizon: An American Saga, a film in which he starred, directed, co-wrote, and produced.
The situation remains in flux — Costner said in September that he’ll “probably go to court” over his Yellowstone exit — so it’s safe to say that he almost certainly won’t be involved in future spinoffs.
