DeSantis: Haitians Who Illegally Arrive In Florida ‘Very Well’ Could Be Sent To Martha’s Vineyard

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said this week that Haitians who illegally enter the U.S. through Florida might be sent by the state to the liberal enclave of Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts.

DeSantis made the remarks while speaking to conservative radio host Dana Loesch about a potential wave of illegal aliens from Haiti that could soon be hitting Florida’s shores as the island nation is on the verge of total collapse after being largely taken over by hyper-violent street gangs.

DeSantis said that it was vital that the state of Florida interdict any vessel carrying illegal aliens before they hit the state’s shores because the state can’t push them back across the border like the state of Texas can since it borders Mexico.

“We do have our transport program also that’s going to be operational,” DeSantis said. “So Haitians land in the Florida Keys, their next stop very well may be Martha’s Vineyard.”

DeSantis said last week amid reports that a large influx of Haitians could illegally enter the state that Florida “has been dedicating significant resources to combat illegal vessels coming to Florida from countries such as Haiti.”

“Given the circumstances in Haiti, I have directed the Division of Emergency Management, the Florida State Guard, and state law enforcement agencies to deploy over 250 additional officers and soldiers and over a dozen air and sea craft to the southern coast of Florida to protect our state,” he said. “No state has done more to supplement the (under-resourced) U.S. Coast Guard’s interdiction efforts; we cannot have illegal aliens coming to Florida.”

The situation in Haiti went from bad to worse after gangs stormed the Port-au-Prince jail and freed thousands of criminals back onto the country’s streets in recent weeks. The small, impoverished country has been devastated by everything from major earthquakes to political assassinations.

The gangs have attacked the country’s main international airport and police stations, looted ports and buildings, and blocked shipments of humanitarian aid.
