Bernardo Raul Castro Mata, the illegal immigrant accused of shooting two cops, reportedly admits he’s a member of the murderous Tren de Aragua gang: That should be the last straw.
Jail him and deport him, as soon as possible, if not sooner.
Same for every other Tren gangster or other brutal illegal migrant cops catch.
These thugs have no right to be here in the first place — and they’re proving New Yorkers suckers for treating them with generosity.
Mata entered the country illegally about a year ago, thanks to President Biden’ come-one-come-all border policies. A Chicago immigration judge closed his asylum case on May 6.
He was living in a Queens migrant shelter free of charge on Gotham taxpayers’ dime.
How did he repay his new hosts?
By joining in the Tren gang’s moped snatch-and-run-robberies, police say, and then firing an illegal gun at two officers.
Cops ID’d him as a person of interest in two prior violent scooter hits targeting women in Queens.
Queens’ Desiree Mason told The Post how she was dragged from her car by a man she ID’d as Mata.
On Monday, Mata allegedly shot two NYPD police officers — Richard Yarusso and Christopher Abreu — before being struck himself and nabbed.
He could have killed the cops.
Meanwhile, moped robberies have been soaring: Since Jan. 1, police report 80 such attacks; at the same point last year, there were just 20 — and zero the year before.
Other illegal migrants have been accused of actual murders, like that of Laken Riley.
Blame Biden for opening the border to anyone and everyone and letting them roam free.
As The Post recently reported, his folks have quietly terminated asylum cases and deportation orders against 350,000 migrants. That’s got to end.
But our criminal-justice system needs to show these brutal thugs the treatment they deserve.
Remember, nearly all recent migrants are here illegally — and in most cases their asylum claims are bogus.
At the least, the city must work with the feds to deport the violent thugs among them, immediately: Preying on innocents should end any immigration “parole.”
Alas, the city’s sanctuary laws won’t even let local authorities notify the feds about migrant criminals.
Numerous ICE detainers go nowhere because sanctuary directives prevent the NYPD, Department of Correction and Probation from honoring those orders.
Councilman Robert Holden (D-Queens) is pushing a bipartisan effort to repeal those idiotic sanctuary laws.
But even if that effort fails, Mayor Adams and the NYPD need to find some way of involving ICE and getting deportations rolling.
(Hint: No one need know if someone uses a personal phone to “drop a dime.”)
It’s time to stop importing ruthless criminals — and start deporting them.
