The trade rumors are flying about 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel after San Francisco selected receiver Ricky Pearsall with their first-round pick on Thursday night.
The situation has appeared to be as fluid as they come, with things rapidly changing over the course of the week, but Samuel didn’t appear to be too concerned when reached by phone by The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.
“I know what’s going on,” Samuel told her. “But it is what it is. I’m good staying with them. I’m chilling.”
It’s the first public comment by Samuel amid the ongoing speculation about a possible trade of him.
The San Francisco Chronicle’s Michael Silver had first reported that Samuel had been told he wouldn’t be traded, and then on Thursday, indicated that the team was listening to offers before the situation changed on Friday that Samuel was “likely to be traded in the wake of the Pearsall pick.”
Reports started to surface on Friday about teams that could be interested in trying to acquire the 49ers wide receiver.
CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson reported that the Patriots had “preliminary trade discussions” for the wide receiver before the draft.
Boston Sports Journal’s Mike Giardi later added that the Bills had also expressed interest in the star player as well, but NFL insider Jordan Schultz appeared to put water on both reports later in the day.
“While the #49ers have listened to calls on All-Pro WR Deebo Samuel, sources say the #Patriots and #Bills are considered highly unlikely to trade for him,” he posted on X.
Samuel has two more seasons left on his contract, and he is coming off a season where he battled injury but recorded 60 catches for 892 yards and a touchdown.
Brandon Aiyuk had also had his name bantered about in trade rumors.
