Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) said Wednesday that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) is seeking “attention” over her expulsion threat against Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.).
“Right now, I’m not sure that there’s a real appetite by enough people to just oust Speaker Johnson. I think some people want, you know, a little bit of fame, a little bit of attention. That’s usually the kind of antics we see up here,” Crenshaw told Fox News’s Neil Cavuto.
“But look, Johnson’s got a tough needle to thread on a lot of very, very tough issues. And he’s just got to do it,” he added, noting that the failure on Wednesday to reauthorize the nation’s warrantless surveillance powers was a “major failure” for Johnson.
Greene and Johnson met for the first time Wednesday since the Georgia Republican filed a motion to oust Johnson from the Speakership last month. She said the two of them failed to reach a deal over a series of policy issues that rest at the center of her threat to bring her motion to vacate to the House floor.
Greene also amped up her threat on Tuesday by sending out a five-page list of grievances against Johnson that included criticisms on his handling of government funding and his plan to move on Ukraine aid.
When pressed further on why he believes Greene is threatening to oust Johnson, Crenshaw reiterated that she is doing it for “attention.”
“Like I said, for attention. I mean, I’m not sure what the other, the other possibility would be. I mean, we’ve gotten to this point in our politics where anytime you disagree with somebody …. you have to push them off a cliff, which is a pretty absurd tactic,” he said.
“But that’s, I guess, become the norm in D.C. And the unfortunate reality is that, you know, too many, too many people actually cheer it on,” he added.
Crenshaw, who said he would not support ousting Johnson, also noted that he is not seeing much support for the motion right now.
