This mom isn’t playin’ around.
Kelly Medina Enos, a mom of two and UK media personality, is sharing a “really scary” cautionary tale about a toy she bought for her 4-year-old son, George.
Enos claims that somehow a “fully-grown man” hijacked the walkie-talkie she ordered on Amazon.
“Basically they aren’t a safe childs toy IMO. Im so sorry again that I didnt make myself more aware of the risks that come with them,” Enos posted on TikTok last week. “I hope you understand that if im using something with my own child you can trust that I believed it was safe.”
She said George was sleeping when she heard a strange voice — she couldn’t immediately identify where it came from.
“We could quite clearly hear somebody talking,” Enos said in the five-minute clip, which has drawn more than 871,800 views.
“We were like, alright, maybe somebody’s just having, like, a conversation, walked back from the pub or something, and they’re outside the front of our house having a chat,” she added.
She said she checked her Ring doorbell and didn’t see anyone near her home.
Then she remembered that she and George had been playing with walkie-talkies and one was left on.
“What was coming from the walkie-talkie was a fully-grown man saying, ‘Hello? Are you there? Hello, mommy,’” Enos recalled.
She says she turned the toy off, threw it away, and made the shocking realization that anyone can hop on a walkie-talkie.
“Please don’t make the same mistake that I have,” she told her followers. She also apologized for sharing a link to the toy in another TikTok and said if she’s recommending something it means she thinks it’s safe.
“If this educates more people then I’m happy,” she said.
The Post reached out to Enos for comment.
Some TikTok commenters said they had similar frightening experiences.
“Happened to me with my little one as well! Grown man came through saying I’m under the bed! Absolutely terrified me, they instantly went in the bin!” one person shared.
“Also this happens with baby monitors. parents pls be careful,” another cautioned.
“Our walkie talkie connected to a frequency from a talkback babymonitor. The mum kindly requested us to get the f off the frequency,” laughed a third.
This isn’t the first time parents have reported something similar happening with their children’s toys.
Back in the fall, a mom said her 1-year-old daughter’s baby monitor was hacked.
A 2023 study from a consumer watchdog also warned about toys that “spy” on children.
The US PIRG Education Fund stated that certain toys that record children’s voices, images, locations and other information pose a risk to children’s safety and privacy.
The organization also noted that an increasing number of toys are utilizing technological features — even when they do not appear to be doing so.
