The Chiefs return to the Super Bowl on Sunday to face the 49ers and a profound historical challenge — one that even some of the 21st century’s best sports dynasties could not overcome.
They are after back-to-back titles.
The Chiefs would be the first NFL team to repeat as champions in 19 years, since Tom Brady led the Patriots to Super Bowl victories following the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
The Seahawks came up inches short against the Patriots after the 2014 season after crushing the Broncos, 43-8, the year prior. And the Patriots failed to execute another back-to-back win when they fell to Nick Foles’ Eagles, 41-33, after the 2017 season.
