With a rowdy collection of Bills Mafia members watching behind the set, four members of the “NFL Today” crew jumped through folding tables — a traditional pregame move from Bills fans — during the CBS pregame show ahead of Buffalo’s Chiefs clash Sunday afternoon.
Nate Burleson had perhaps the most impressive performance out of the four, even flipping half of the table away with his hand afterward, while legendary NFL coach Bill Cowher, former Texans star J.J. Watt and longtime quarterback Matt Ryan leaped through the air and snapped the plastic tables.
Watt went first, with Ryan standing next to the table and jokingly asking if Watt — with 114.5 sacks throughout his NFL career — wanted him to stand there to pretend like he’s rushing a quarterback.
Then, after Watt broke his table, Burleson, who spent 11 years in the NFL as a wide receiver, shouted, “Bring in another table, bring in another table,” built up plenty of anticipation and then delivered.
And after he jumped, Cowher — who previously broke a wooden folding table in the regular “NFL Today” studio when the Bills snapped their playoff drought and returned to the postseason in January 2018 — removed his jacket and broke another table, before Ryan added his jump and host James Brown mimicked the motion as the segment went to a commercial break.
CBS opted to host its pregame show from Orchard Park on Sunday with the Chiefs looking to remain undefeated and the Bills attempting to continue their recent regular-season success against Kansas City in the latest Patrick Mahomes-Josh Allen showdown.
Even with the game not starting until 4:25 p.m. in Orchard Park, plenty of Bills fans gathered around the CBS set for their early pregame show that began at noon, and Watt even led the “Hey-ey-ey-ey” chant with the crowd.
The Bills lost consecutive games to the Ravens and the Texans earlier this season, but they’ve since won five games in a row and can inch closer to Kansas City in the race for the AFC’s top seed in the postseason.
Last year, Buffalo hosted Kansas City in the postseason for the first time with fans — making it the first true road playoff game of Mahomes’ career — but still lost when Tyler Bass missed a field goal that would’ve forced overtime in the final seconds of the divisional round.
The Chiefs ultimately ended up defeating the 49ers for their second consecutive Super Bowl weeks later.
