‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’s Secret Producer Dolly Parton Offers Hope For A Reboot: “They’re Still Working On That”

Producers are working nine to five to bring back Buffy the Vampire Slayer, according to Dolly Parton.

The country music superstar, who worked as a secret producer on the iconic teen drama, recently gave ’90s kids a new sense of hope for a potential reboot of the series.

“They’re still working on that. They’re thinking about bringing it back and revamping it,” she told Business Insider earlier this month, without offering up any further details.

Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar as the titular character, Buffy the Vampire Slayer follows the adventures of a teenage girl who is chosen to face off against vampires, demons and other supernatural figures. Having run from 1997 to 2003, the show is often regarded as a TV classic, with many fans begging for Gellar to return to her badass role.

Now, thanks to Parton, it might not be too long until that dream comes to fruition.

It was previously revealed that the singer acted as an uncredited producer through her production company, Sandollar Productions, which she co-founded with her former manager, Sandy Gallin, who served as an executive producer on Buffy the Vampire Slayer throughout its seven seasons.

Parton’s company also produced the 1992 film, Buffy, which starred Kristy Swanson, Luke Perry, Hillary Swank and David Arquette.

Last year, Gellar opened up about Parton’s role on the series during an appearance on The Tonight Show.

“We never saw her,” she told host Jimmy Fallon. “Like, we’d get Christmas gifts in the beginning that would have our name, and I would think, ‘She doesn’t even know who I am.’”

She continued, “And then one day, someone asked her about it, and she complimented the show and my performance. I was like, ‘Oh, I can die now. Dolly Parton knows who I am and thinks I’m good.’”

While a revival may be in the works, it might have to move forward without Gellar, who previously said a reboot “doesn’t need to be done.”

“I am all for them continuing the story, because there’s the story of female empowerment,” Gellar told SFX Magazine in 2022, per MovieWeb. “I love the way the show was left: ‘Every girl who has the power can have the power.’ It’s set up perfectly for someone else to have the power.”

She added, “But like I said, the metaphors of Buffy were the horrors of adolescence. I think I look young, but I am not an adolescent.”

Until we have more details on the future of this beloved series, you can stream all seven seasons of Buffy on Hulu.
