Brian Daboll reiterates that Daniel Jones is Giants’ starting QB

Nothing has changed for Brian Daboll.

The Giants’ head coach reiterated on Saturday the same sentiment that he expressed after the season, and what general manager Joe Schoen has said repeatedly throughout the offseason.

When healthy, Daniel Jones will be the Giants’ starting quarterback.

“We’re excited to have Drew [Lock], and he knows what his role is going to be,” Daboll told NFL Network on Saturday. “He’s going to get a lot of reps this spring, he needs to learn our system, but again excited to get Daniel back, when he gets back he’ll be the guy.”

Daboll would not promise that Jones, who is recovering from a torn ACL, will be ready for Week 1, however.

Though it was with the league-affiliated network, they were Daboll’s first public comments of the offseason.

He is set to meet with the rest of the media at the owners’ meetings on Tuesday in Orlando, Florida.

After Seahawks general manager John Schneider said on 710 Seattle Sports radio that he wished to bring back Lock but that the Giants told him he’d compete with Jones to be the starter, The Post’s Paul Schwartz reported that conversation never took place, and that Lock was signed in to be the backup.

Lock later confirmed in his introductory press conference that he was told he’d be the backup to Jones.

So Daboll’s comments on Saturday were nothing new.

He also wished running back Saquon Barkley well, who left in free agency to sign with the rival Eagles.

“This is what it is every year in the NFL,” Daboll said. “You meet great people, whether it’s coaches, players, staff members, and unfortunately everybody doesn’t stick together the entire time, it’s not what it was 30, 40 years ago. I’ve got a tremendous amount of respect for Saquon and all the players that went on to other places.

“It’s a special group when you’re going through an NFL season, you’ve got to go through ups and downs. … Wish him all the best except when he is playing the Giants.”
