The Bills finally have Patrick Mahomes on their turf.
And they’re doing some chirping.
“(Mahomes has) only been here once. So, he’s never been here. Simple as that,” Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins said, according to ESPN. “Pat has never been to the Bills stadium in full. … The environment will be different, and not to say it’s in our favor, but stadium is our favor. Stadium is us. That helps us. I don’t care what nobody says.
“This is the most dopest feeling I’ve ever had. We’re having two back-to-back playoff games home. Come on now, like we get to leave and go eat wings. It’s cool. So good luck.”
Sports history is littered with “when keeping it real goes wrong” moments and Dawkins could come to regret these comments come Sunday night.
For now, the Bills are confident as they get their first home game against Mahomes and the Chiefs during their 2020s postseason rivalry.
Not only will Sunday mark the first time Mahomes faces the Bills on the road during the playoffs, it will also be his first game at Highmark Stadium that features fans.
The Chiefs beat the Bills, 26-17, in Orchard Park during the 2020 Covid season, so Bills Mafia could not attend the game.
This will be the third playoff matchup between the teams in the past four years, with the Chiefs winning the first two.
Kansas City beat Buffalo, 38-24, in the AFC Championship Game in 2021 before it fell to the Buccaneers in the Super Bowl.
One year later, the Chiefs escaped with a 42-36 overtime win in the divisional round that added to the long list of Bills playoff heartbreakers.
Just 13 seconds from a victory, the Bills allowed Mahomes to set up a game-tying field goal despite having no timeouts.
Mahomes then found Travis Kelce – not yet Taylor Swift’s boyfriend – for the game-winning touchdown in overtime after the Chiefs won the toss.
Sunday marks a rare instance where Mahomes is an underdog.
Buffalo is holding as a 2.5-point favorite over the Chiefs at FanDuel, the tightest spread of the four divisional-round matchups, with kickoff set for 6:30 p.m. ET.
