Their well has run dry.
Billionaire heiress and fashion favorite Ivy Getty — the great-granddaughter of oil tycoon J. Paul Getty — has filed for divorce from her husband of four years, actor Tobias Engel, Page Six has learned.
The couple were wed in a private ceremony in December 2020, we hear, before having an opulent, storybook wedding in November 2021, that was breathlessly covered in the pages of Vogue.
A source tells us that the couple has a prenup in place, protecting her famed family’s massive wealth.
“Obviously, being a member of the Getty family, Ivy is careful about legal entanglements,” says a source.
A court docket seen by Page Six has a lawyer for Getty filing for divorce in January 2024. It’s listed as “contested,” meaning the parties did not settle with a mediator before Getty filed.
Pictures of Engel also appear to have been deleted from the socialite’s Instagram feed, (though he still appears in some carousels of pics from their luxe wedding).
The nuptials kicked off with a mod-themed “British Invasion” pre-wedding party at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, Calif., with performances by Mark Ronson and Earth, Wind & Fire.
The pair were wed at San Francisco City Hall by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and “Queen’s Gambit” star Anya Taylor-Joy was a bridesmaid.
The fete was attended by numerous elites including Gov. Gavin Newsom, San Francisco Mayor London Breed, Vanessa Getty, Princess Olympia of Greece, fashion designer Wes Gordon, Mimi Wade, Vogue veteran Hamish Bowles, Fletcher Cowan and filmmaker Christian Coppola.
Getty wore a jaw-dropping mirrored, custom John Galliano gown for Maison Margiela Haute Couture. Her veil was embroidered with walnuts in honor of her grandmother Ann — who raised Ivy in the famed Getty mansion and grew up on a walnut farm.
The ceremony also included guitar players as an homage to the bride’s late father, John Gilbert, who passed away in 2020.
Engel was born in Vienna to Austrian businessman Peter Engel, and Cheryl Prime, an English actress.
The former couple first met at Paris Fashion Week, and Engel ultimately proposed at sunset in Capri, Italy.
Getty’s great-grandfather owned Getty Oil, and was once the richest man in the world. (He was also known for refusing to pay his grandson’s ransom of $17 million after he was kidnapped in the ’70s, but wound up paying $2.2 million after John Paul Getty III’s severed ear was sent to a newspaper in Rome.)
Her mother is jewelry designer Alyssa Boothby.
Reps for Getty did not respond to a request for comment, and we were unable to reach Engel.
