President Biden and former President Trump are deadlocked in Virginia, a state that went blue in 2020, according to a new poll.
A Fox News survey of registered Virginia voters released Thursday found Biden and Trump are tied at 48 percent.
In 2020, Biden won in the state by more than 10 points. Biden earned 54.11 percent of the vote, compared to Trump’s 44 percent in their first head-to-head contest.
The recent survey found that Biden is getting support from 73 percent of Black voters, 58 percent of suburban women and 56 percent of college-educated voters.
Trump is earning support among 80 percent of white evangelical Christians, 63 percent of rural voters, 56 percent of voters without a college degree and 54 percent of white voters.
The survey found that both of the presumptive nominees have equal support across different generations. Both Biden and Trump earned 48 percent among voters under 30 and 48 percent among voters over 65.
Independents have a slight lean toward Biden, 45 percent, but Trump is closely behind with 43 percent.
Men are more likely to support Trump than women are, the survey found.
In a hypothetical five-way matchup among Biden, Trump, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West and Jill Stein, the president squeaks by with 42 percent to Trump’s 41 percent.
Kennedy earned 9 percent in the state, and West and Stein each had 2 percent support. Kennedy, West and Stein currently are not on the ballot in Virginia.
“Virginia is a must-win state for Biden, so a tight race here is going to require some serious defense from his campaign to hold it,” Democratic pollster Chris Anderson who conducted the Fox News Poll said, noting that it’s not impossible for Biden to hold onto his lead.
The polling, released one week after Trump’s conviction, found that 66 percent of Virginians say the guilty verdict won’t have an impact on their vote.
The survey also found that Trump leads in two key swing states, Nevada and Arizona.
The survey was conducted June 1-3 among 1,107 Virginia voters. It has a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
