Ambulance narrowly avoids rollover crash on I-95: Video

Dramatic dash cam footage captured the moment an ambulance carrying a patient nearly collided with an out-of-control car that had rolled over on a Massachusetts highway during Tuesday’s powerful winter storm.

Tim Crosbie, a paramedic with Cataldo Ambulance Service, was driving on I-95 in Peabody with a patient in the back when a white sedan suddenly rolled across the median and crashed in front of him.

“Next thing I see out of the corner of my left eye is a car coming across the median,” Crosbie told NBC10 Boston. “Basically right at me.”

EMT Tim Wareham watched the jaw-dropping accident unfold in front of his eyes from the backseat, where he was taking care of the patient.

“It’s almost like slow motion when you’re living through it,” Wareham told the station. “It was coming right at us.”

Terrifying dash cam footage captured the sedan rolling over from the opposite side of the road and nearly colliding head-on with the ambulance,

Crosbie, who was taking the patient to Mass General Hospital, quickly swerved the vehicle and the oncoming sedan managed to only clip the ambulance.

Wareham stayed with the patient, who was not in critical condition, as Crosbie went to check on the sedan’s driver.

Crosbie said he was expecting the worst after such a brutal accident, but was relieved to find the driver was seemingly okay.

“Luckily it was a young man, he rolled down his window and he appeared to be fine. He was just scared to death,” he said.

Crosbie brought the driver into the ambulance until another ambulance crew arrived.

Massachusetts State Police said the sedan’s driver had lost control while driving northbound amidst the heavy winter storm Tuesday afternoon.

“We’re very fortunate everyone was able to get out alive,” Wareham said, while Crosbie added, “It could’ve been a heck of a lot worse.”

The driver, who paramedics said was a teenager, was not hurt in the incident, officials said.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation later went to the scene to treat the road and repair the guardrail, which the car struck before flipping onto the opposite side of the highway.
