Round 1 of the PGA Championship is in the books, and there’s a new favorite at the top of the odds board at BetMGM Sportsbook.
After shooting a major-record 62 for the second time in his golf career, Xander Schauffele is the leader in the clubhouse heading into Friday’s action, and oddsmakers are giving him the best shot in the field to walk away with his first career major.
Schauffele is currently +275 to win the tournament, jumping from +1400 pre-tournament, which were tied for the third-best odds before teeing off on Thursday.

Scheffler, who is coming off a Masters victory and has won four of his past five starts, shot a 4-under 67, which tied for 10th heading into Friday’s play.
Rory McIlroy, who came into the tournament as the second-favorite, put himself in the hunt for his first major in a decade with a 5-under 65, which tied him for fourth on the leaderboard.
He forms a clear top-three with Schauffele and Scheffler at +500.
Reigning PGA Championship winner Brooks Koepka is also in the mix at -4.
Koepka has the fourth-best odds at +1400, which is even with Collin Morikawa, who bested Koepka by a stroke at -5, to round out the top five at BetMGM.

Pre-tournament long shots Sahith Theegala (+2200) and Tony Finau (+2500) turned in 6-under rounds on Thursday and are lurking outside the inner-circle of contenders.
Golf legends Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson showed flashes of brilliance but didn’t make much noise on either the odds or leaderboard, shooting 1-over and 3-over, respectively.
