A.J. Brown, Eagles agree on $96 million contract extension

A.J. Brown will be an Eagle through the 2029 season.

The star Philadelphia receiver and the team came to terms on a three-year, $96 million contract extension, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Thursday just before the start of the 2024 NFL Draft in Detroit.

The deal comes with a guaranteed $84 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The extension is the highest for any receiver in the history of the NFL.

Howard Eskin of 94 WIP reported earlier Thursday that the Eagles had begun “preliminary discussions” about an extension for Brown, who had two years left on his existing deal that would have made him a free agent after the 2027 season

Brown has had two successful campaigns in Philadelphia after he was traded by the Titans in 2022.

In his first year with the Eagles, Brown had 88 catches for a career-high 1,496 yards and 11 touchdowns.

While Brown’s second half of the 2023 season left a bit to be desired, he still finished with a career-best 106 catches for 1,456 yards and seven TDs.

But Brown missed the wild card round loss to the Buccaneers and questions swirled about his happiness in Philadelphia

Brown did create a bit of a stir earlier this month when he changed his profile picture on X and Instagram to an image of Tom Brady but claimed in a now-deleted post that he was merely paying homage to the legendary quarterback.

He is now the second receiver the Eagles have been able to lock up to an extension this offseason.

Earlier in April, the Eagles signed No. 2 receiver DeVonta Smith to a three-year, $75 million extension after he had back-to-back seasons where he recorded over 1,000 receiving yards.
