Jason Sudeikis Hits Back At ‘Ted Lasso’ Viewers Who Criticized Season 3: “They Don’t Have Imaginations”

Jason Sudeikis did not mince words when it came time to respond to viewers who criticized how Ted Lasso handled what was reported to be its series finale.

During an interview with TVLine, Sudeikis responded to a statement in Jeremy Egner’s new book Believe: The Untold Story Behind Ted Lasso, the Show That Kicked Its Way Into Our Hearts that said “a small but hostile group of dissenters” felt that “the core cast had been scattered into different storylines.” Egner noted that critics also complained that certain characters, such as Keeley and Nate, suffered from “unfocused” storylines in Season 3.

While Brendan Hunt dismissed the criticisms as “easily compartmentalized,” Sudeikis had a more damning indictment that only Ted Lasso could make: “Some people want to judge—they don’t want to be curious,” he said, recalling Coach Lasso’s iconic “be curious, not judgmental” motto.

He raved against the critics while defending what they accomplished in Season 3, while making a point to note that they left the characters “in better shape” than when they started.

“I’ll never understand people who will go on talking about something so brazenly that they, in my opinion, clearly don’t understand,” he said. “And God bless ’em for it; it’s not their fault. They don’t have imaginations and they’re not open to the experience of what it’s like to have one.”

He continued, “Like a good Boy or Girl Scout at a campsite, we left it better than we found it. And if you don’t see that in that show, then I don’t know what show you’re watching.”

Season 3 saw Keeley and Rebecca teaming up to start their own women’s league, while Sudeikis finally left the UK to reunite with his family in Kansas. All in all, Ted Lasso ended Season 3 on a happy note that could easily serve as the show’s series finale.

But it looks like Ted Lasso could be getting renewed for a fourth season. Reports from this summer claim Warner Bros. Television was in the process of signing deals with Hannah WaddinghamBrett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift. The studio was also expected to begin reaching out to Sudeikis, Hunt, and actress Juno Temple.

The renewal has not been announced yet, but those at WBT appear to certainly be interested.

Ted Lasso Season 3 earned a whopping 21 Emmy Award nominations this year, with a win going to Sam Richardson for Outstanding Guest Actor.

The show has won 13 Emmy Awards throughout its three-season run.
