Bernie Sanders says Harris did her ‘very best’ and called for Democrats to look forward

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said Vice President Harris did her “very best” in the presidential election and called on the Democratic Party to look both inward and forward.

Sanders joined CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday morning and host Dana Bash asked his thoughts about President Biden in the 2024 race as Democrats question if he should have remained in the race, or not run at all.

“I don’t want to get involved. We got to look forward and not in the back. Kamala did her very best. She came in, she won the debate with Trump. She worked as hard as she possibly could,” Sanders said. “Let’s look to the future and not go backwards.”

While Sanders is urging Democrats to look forward, he also suggests they need to reevaluate. He argued it’s not the messaging, it’s the “fundamental understanding” of what Americans really want.

“Here is the reality, the working class of this country is angry, and they have reason to be angry,” said in a statement about the results of Tuesday’s election. “We are living in an economy today where the people on top are doing phenomenally well while 60 percent of our people are living paycheck to paycheck.”

Sanders’s criticism was one of the harshest and most pointed criticisms of the Democratic party in the wake of President-elect Trump’s election win.
