Jimmy Kimmel wasted no time mocking right-wing conspiracy theorists for spreading what he called some “serious crazy talk” about Taylor Swift and President Joe Biden.
On Tuesday night’s (Jan. 30) episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, the longtime host brought up the far-fetched theories that Swift is planning to rig the Super Bowl in Travis Kelce‘s favor before taking the stage at the halftime show to publicly announcing her support for Biden.
“You expect to hear this from a couple of nuts and then it disappears but if anything, it’s picking up steam,” Kimmel noted during his opening monologue.
And he wasn’t wrong!
“Everyone who thinks Taylor Swift *won’t* heroically parachute into the Stadium at the Super Bowl, straight off the jet from her Japan tour…Are absolute SHEEP,” Rumble host Mike Crispi wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).
He continued, “Taylor’s coming. She, nor the NFL are passing up the money. She’s endorsing Biden. It’s rigged. You’re the pawn.”
Another social media user, Jack Lombardi II, called out what he believes to be a “connection” between Swift’s “fake love story” with Kelce and the “upcoming presidential election.”
Even former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy “added his nut voice to the chorus of cuckoos,” Kimmel joked.
The Republican politician wrote, “I wonder who’s going to win the Super Bowl next month. And I wonder if there’s a major presidential endorsement coming from an artificially culturally propped-up couple this fall. Just some wild speculation over here, let’s see how it ages over the next 8 months.”
Unlike the “not-so-Swifties,” Kimmel was not buying the absurd theory.
“So let me get this straight,” he said. “The same people who believe Joe Biden has dementia and needs Kamala Harris to feed him butterscotch tapioca every night also believe that he has somehow planned and executed a diabolically brilliant scheme to fix the NFL playoffs so the biggest pop star in the world could pop up on the Jumbotron during the Super Bowl in between a Kia and a Tostitos commercial to hypnotize her 11-year-old fans into voting for Joe Biden?”
The comedian sarcastically added, “It makes total sense,” before concluding, “These people think football is fake and wrestling is real.”
While Swift has remained rather quiet when it comes to politics, there have been rare occasions in which she has spoken out. In 2018, she endorsed Tennessee Democrats Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper for House of Representatives — and in 2020, she told Donald Trump, “We will vote you out in November,” after he posted a rather threatening tweet to those protesting George Floyd’s murder.
The “You Need to Calm Down” singer has also been a strong advocate of the LGBTQ+ community, having penned a letter encouraging her senator to support the Equality Act in 2019.
Jimmy Kimmel Live airs on weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC. Check out last night’s monologue above.
