Jayson Tatum may have not been the only one screaming “WE DID IT!” after the Celtics won the NBA championship on Monday.
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy was likely off somewhere in the world not only celebrating his Celtics capturing their first NBA title in 16 years, but also his big winnings after a $100,000 wager on a two-leg parlay paid off with the Boston win.
Thanks to Scottie Scheffler winning The Masters in April and the Celtics closing out the NBA Finals on Monday, Portnoy won $1,592,500.
“It’s not about the money but I’ll take the quick 1.6 milly.” El Pres wrote on X when the Celtics’ victory was all but secured on Monday.
Portnoy claims to have won $5.4 million while sports betting in 2024 prior to the massive parlay he placed and in a post on X last week he claimed that total would reach $7.5 million if he won his latest two bets — but the Oilers trail the Panthers 3-1 in the Stanley Cup Final.
“This run should be taught in history books,” Portnoy wrote while boasting about his gambling streak.
The controversial sports media personality’s other notable betting wins came on Michigan and Washington winning in the CFP semifinals, the Chiefs winning the Super Bowl, UConn winning the national title ($2.2 million) and Scheffler winning the Masters ($1.35 million).
Portnoy appeared to bask in the glory of the Celtics’ title victory with several other posts on X, unrelated to his betting wins.
“We need to start the discussion of whether this is the greatest team in the history of the NBA. They were that good,” Portnoy wrote in another post.
“Maybe it’s just my mentality but I don’t know how we don’t repeat,” he wrote in another post.
The Barstool founder also made quick work to hock merch for the popular sports media company in honor of the Celtics’ record 18th franchise championship.
