Scottie Scheffler a massive favorite amid historic run

Scottie Scheffler is once again in rarified air ahead of the U.S. Open.

The No. 1 golfer in the world is a +280 favorite at FanDuel Sportsbook to win his second major tournament of the year at Pinehurst No. 2 this weekend.

Those are the shortest pre-major tournament odds for any golfer since Tiger Woods was +180 before the 2009 PGA Championship.

Scheffer heads into the U.S. Open on an all-time run.

Last weekend, Scheffler won the Memorial Tournament to become the first player since Tom Watson in 1980 to have five PGA Tour wins before the U.S. Open.

He’s finished top-10 in each of his past 11 tournaments.

Since mid-March, he’s won five of his eight starts, including the Masters in April.

It’s not the first time Scheffler has entered a major tournament as a historic favorite this season.

Ahead of the PGA Championship in May, Scheffler was a +450 favorite, which were the shortest PGA Championship odds since Woods was +400 to win the 2013 tournament, according to SportsOddsHistory.com.

It was the same story at the Masters in April when he was also +450, which has only been topped at Augusta by Woods since 2000.

Bettors have predictably hammered Scheffler to win the tournament.

He has attracted 22.3 percent of tickets and 45.8 percent of the handle at BetMGM Sportsbook to take home his second major championship of the season.

Scheffler is followed on the odds board by PGA Championship winner Xander Schauffele (+1000) and Rory McIlroy (+1100), who is looking for his first major win in a decade.

Collin Morikawa (+1600) and Viktor Hovland (+1800) round out of the top five, followed by Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka, who are both sitting at +2000.
